Kindergarten – 4 to 6 years
Time 4 Tots Early Learning Centre offers a Government Funded Kindergarten program for children turning 4 years of age prior to the 30th of April. The Kindergarten Program operates Monday to Thursday between 8:30am – 4:00pm of the school terms. Care is available at our Long Daycare rate Monday to Friday between the hours of 6.30am to 6.30pm.
Time 4 Tots employs a fully qualified Kindergarten Teacher to oversee the program. Working alongside the teacher is a qualified assistant who holds a Diploma in Community Services. (Childcare)
The Kindergarten program incorporates a variety of curriculum areas including social sciences, art, maths, music, science, movement and language. Each curriculum area focuses on developing and fostering specific concepts. Each area is incorporated into the program through relevant activities with specific objectives which relate to a child’s development. The program also facilitates children’s interests through a project approach, emergent curriculum and program inclusion.
The Kindergarten Environment has a natural outdoor play space where the children can continue to expand and develop their gross motor skills and hand/ eye coordination.
Introducing Nature Based Kindergarten in 2018 at Time 4 Tots
It is with great excitement that we announce to our Families changes to the way we will be implementing and delivering our Kindergarten Programme in 2018 and onward.
“NATURE BASED KINDERGARTEN” will be operating Monday to Thursday from 8.30am – 4pm during the School Terms.
NATURE PROVIDES BOTH AN ENJOYABLE PLACE AND OBJECTS FOR PLAY AND LEARNING.
Among older children, exposure to nature encourages exploration and building activities. This can improve problem-solving abilities, ability to respond to changing contexts, and participation in group decision-making.
Children often use outdoor settings having plants, stones, and sticks as props for imaginative play, which is key to social and cognitive development.
One study of children’s play found that a cluster of shrubs was the most popular place to play because it could be transformed into many imaginary places: a house, spaceship, etc.
A forest kindergarten is a type of preschool education for children held almost exclusively outdoors, however Time 4 Tots is carefully selecting equipment and materials to set up a Natural Indoor and Outdoor Environment.
Whatever the weather, children are encouraged to take the lead in playing, exploring and learning in a forest or natural environment.
Forest schools have been operating successfully in Northern Europe for over 50 years. Several “Bush Kinder” programs have now begun in Australia.
We look forward to the CLASS OF 2018 being the first group of Kindergarten children to experience this new environment.
What Is a Nature Based Kindergarten?
There are many ways of operating a Nature-Based Kindergarten, but experts agree that to truly be a “nature based kindergarten,” an early learning centre must put nature at the heart of the program. It must be based on high-quality early childhood education and environmental education practices, and it must also help lay a foundation for environmental practices as well as a child’s formal schooling.
At Time 4 Tots “Nature Based Kindergarten” we endeavour to meet these goals, offering an environment that closely mimics the natural world.
Early childhood educators have long known that animals, plants, water, and other aspects of the natural world delight children and draw them in as learners.
As a result, most kindergartens will at certain points use nature or natural elements in their teaching to achieve great educational results. “Nature Based Kindergarten”, however, differs from other kindergartens as it offers an environment where the natural world is embedded within the program and environment.
Time 4 Tots “Nature Based Kindergarten” has all the same child development goals that more traditional kindergarten’s have, but we are also committed to accomplishing those goals through experiences in and with nature, and have an added goal of helping children begin to develop care and concern for the natural world.
“Nature Based Kindergarten” allows a child to develop in a holistic approach, educating each child in a way that is unique to their identity, it fosters a sense of wonder and inspires a love for learning teaching child how to learn, discover and research for themselves.
At Time 4 Tots “Nature Based Kindergarten” we will ensure that:
- Nature, the children’s interests and needs, are the central organising concepts of the program. That nature is integrating through the program and ties together the kindergarten’s philosophy, class-room design, outdoor spaces, and public identity.
- The “Nature Based Kindergarten’s” program is based on high-quality practices of both early childhood education (developmentally appropriate practices) and environmental education.
- “Nature Based Kindergarten” program uses the natural world to support goals that address each child’s development, learning and conservation values.
Time 4 Tots Early Learning Centre employs a full time Cook who prepares all meals in our registered kitchen.
We cater for your child’s nutritional needs through our 4 weekly rotating menu which is displayed on the Family Notice Board in the hallway of the centre.
These are continually revised to suit the dietary requirements of the children within our environment.
